Wornell Editions and Photography

Gary Wornell Studios provide high quality printing services for artists and photographers and museums using the most up to date inkjet printing technology available on the market today. Our clients include professionals in both fields requiring precise control over the final print. Gary Wornell Studios are the printer of choice for Korjaamo Editions providing a comprehensive service to some of the best known names in photography in Finland. We have also printed exhibitions for Sandra Kantanen, and Terho Aalto.

The Epson Stylus Pro 7800 and 9880 K3 8 colour pigments provide excellent Dmax, colour fidelity and longevity on both matte finish cotton rag and glossy media. Our maximum width is currently 112cm (44") and any length required.

We create custom colour profiles for each of the substrates giving the best possible result on any media.

Certificate of Authenticity

Wornell Editions provide a Certificate of Authenticity with every print in your edition. This certificate includes all relevant information on the artist, the original work, the printer and the print.

Printers Chop

Each print is impressed with our Wornell Editions chop on the bottom right hand corner of the print in the white space close to the artists signature. The chop is a special mark that guarrantees the origin of the print.

Large Original Artworks

Large art works should be scanned or photographed at a professional facility using calibrated equipment to ensure the accuracy of colours. Please contact us to find the best service near where you live.

Digital files

Digital files should be delivered to us on either CD or DVD. The images should be in RGB colour space or in the case of Black and White they should be Greyscale.

Files should be a minimum of 300 ppi (pixels per inch) and sized at the physical dimensions required for the final print. Smaller resolutions can produce good results depending on the final size of the print. Contact us for more information.

NOTE: Photographs should not be sharpened for final output. Sharpening is entirely dependent on paper, resolution and print methods and should only be done at the proofing stage.

Transparencies and Negatives

Wornell Editions can scan original transparencies (dias) and negatives of all sizes. For prices on various file sizes please contact us.

Proofing is an essential step in setting up your print for an edition. Our proofing service includes creating a master print called a BAT (bona a tirer) on the paper of your choice.

This master copy will include all relevant print information to ensure accuracy in the edition. Once the BAT has been inspected and approved by you and signed, then we can begin to print.

The BAT remains the property of Wornell Editions and is kept in secure storage away from light. It becomes the master from which prints in the edition are compared for quality and consistency.

Proofing costs

Prices are based on the form the original is delivered. Slides, negatives, and small originals up to A4 can be scanned inhouse for 80 euros + VAT (ALV) and includes up to three A4 proofs on Archive Matte paper. Full size proofs on the artists chosen paper are charged at regular rates for that media.

Slides, negatives and artwork that have already been scanned and written to CD / DVD must be seen before we can provide a quote for proofing.

In most cases we would prefer to have the originals while proofing, but in the case of highly valuable items such as museum paintings, we will do our best to match the colours without the original.

If we cannot provide scanning or image capture ourselves, then we will recommend a service where that can be done.

The price list is currently being updated. For information on current pricing, please write to gary (at) garywornellstudios.com We use only acid-free papers for the finest and most long lasting prints.

Prices are based on the paper area, not just the actual printed area. White space around the image is included. If you require a 5cm white space around the image that is naturally calculated in the price.

Mininum print order is 0.2 sq meter (approx 30cm x 60 or 2 A3 pages).

Digital Workflow

My main tools are Canon Digital bodies and lenses. I shoot RAW format at the beginning of a digital workflow that creates the highest quality output for my clients in the shortest time possible.

Web galleries are uploaded just hours after a shoot and final editing is done when the client have made their selections.

Delivery includes CD/DVD media with files written to my clients' requirements.
